How to Prepare for Your Test

Follow these guidelines for accurate results

• ✓ Fast for 8–12 hours before the test
• ✓ Drink plenty of water — staying hydrated is fine
• ✓ Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before
• ✓ Take regular medications unless advised otherwise
• ✓ Avoid strenuous exercise the night before

• ✓ Fast for at least 8 hours (no food or drink except water)
• ✓ Best done first thing in the morning
• ✓ Do not chew gum or take mints before the test
• ✓ Inform us of any diabetes medications

• ✓ Abdominal scan: fast for 4–6 hours beforehand
• ✓ Pelvic scan: drink 1 litre of water 1 hour before — do not urinate
• ✓ Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
• ✓ Obstetric scan: no special preparation needed

• ✓ No special preparation required
• ✓ Avoid applying lotions or oils to your chest/legs
• ✓ Wear a two-piece outfit for easy access
• ✓ Inform us of any heart medications you are taking
